Banquet for the Broken

Missionaries From Moldova Speak at Banquet
Release and Delta Kappa welcomed North Central alumni and missionaries Andrew and Nancy Raatz to be the speakers for this year’s Banquet for the Broken. More than 180 students and community members were in attendance. The event was hosted in the Clark Danielson Gymnasium on the evening of Jan. 28.. The musical entertainment for the evening was a small jazz band. Appetizers and desserts were served to the guests. Crocheted hearts and jewelry, handmade by the recovering women living in the Freedom Home, were sold with 100 percent of the proceeds supporting the home.

Four Months in Advance

In February I want to change my eating lifestyle like that of a vegetarian. Also I want to go with out drinking Starbucks coffee for a whole month. Now, you need to know that I have a large enough obsession with their coffee that I budget out money each month for it. I’m sure my body will go through caffeine withdrawals. Along with changing my eating habits and getting rid of my coffee addiction, I should follow the trend of health and add a fitness goal of trying to run five miles with out stopping. I need to invest in a personal trainer, or have someone yelling in my ear pushing me to keep going.

Fight Song Debut

For years, North Central has had a strong athletic department that competes in a variety of sports, including baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. These teams also have a passionate fan base that comes to cheer on the players at every game. The addition of a fight song adds a new element to the college athletics experience. The song brings unity and high spirits to the student body, as well as a sense of belonging to this the school for everyone who sings it.

Chinese New Year Celebration Unites Students Across Cultures

The highlight of the event was the evening pingpong tournament. Competitors battled it out for prizes that included gift cards to Tea Garden, Pagoda and more.

The final match was between Sabrina, from Malaysia and Atsushi from Japan. Sabrina was declared the winner, and Atsushi amiably admitted his defeat, to the cheers of old and new friends who were watching from the sidelines.

Although Mills composed both the lyrics and melody, he enlisted the help of several music faculty members, including Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Larry Bach; Chair of the College of Fine Arts, Dave Collins; Professor of Fine Arts, Rob Barrett; and others to help refine the composition. Mills also consulted with Director of Athletics, Jon High, before presenting the finished song.

NCU Earns Silver and Gold at AGCU Classic

NCU faculty, students, and athletes were appreciative of the high honor of hosting the tournament. Sophomore guard, Matthew Shepherd, commented, “It’s exciting. The AGCU Classic is a big deal to us as a team and as the school as a whole, so we’re honored to be able to host and we hope our play on the court represents our school well.”
